IAN LAMONT
Senior Consultant - Business- Former CEO and CFO
Ian Lamont is the Senior Consultant and Principal of The Lamont
Group LLC. Ian has been at the center of both big and small
business life for 31 years. Over the last decade he was the CEO at an
energy company and three (turnaround) divisions for the same company.
From chairing merger & acquisition groups that have spent more than
$1.4 billion in acquiring other businesses, to mentoring and counseling
senior executives and up and comers, few have his level of experience
and record of achievement.
Ian has served in numerous leadership roles for key community organizations
and non-profits in Long Beach and other communities. He has also served
on integral boards at the local, regional and national level, including
being the lead on critical community issues in front of Congress, the
Departments of Energy, Education, Transportation and Treasury and even
at the White House.
Ian has worked with Fortune 500 companies to small companies, trade associations,
e-commerce companies and nonprofit organizations. As a strategic business
and market planner, he has created and launched numerous successful products
and projects in the energy, media, e-commerce and services. Ian is known
for his ability to come into a situation and bring energy, passion and
focus in creating a strategic plan as a foundation for implementing successful
and sustainable growth opportunities, whether it is people, teams, revenue
or profits.
Young Horizons, a preschool advocacy group in Long Beach named
Ian it’s "Champion of the Year” for his advocacy on youth
and young children issues while Publisher of the Long Beach Press-Telegram
in 2003. In addition, the Long Beach Council of Boy Scouts named Ian,
along with Long Beach Police Chief Tony Batts, the 2003 (Community) Leaders
of the Year. In addition, leading media outlets (Oakland Tribune,
Tri-City Herald, Press-Telegram, California Newspaper Association, San
Mateo Times, Los Angles Daily News) have recognized Ian’s strong
background in business leadership, media relations and his crisis management
in turning around businesses.
Prior to forming The Lamont Group LLC with his
two sons, Shawn and Evan, Ian was CEO, President and Publisher of the
Alameda Newspaper Group (ANG) overseeing 10 daily newspapers and numerous
other niche businesses, including an online/new media division. He was
promoted to the top spot at ANG after leading the Long Beach Press-Telegram
for three years as its Publisher and President. Both ANG and the Press-Telegram
are owned by Media News Group, one of the nation’s top media companies.
Under his leadership, the businesses he oversaw increased revenue 20%
annually and saw operating profit profits grow an average of 14% annually
and more than 40% in three years. The newspapers he oversaw, as well as
the various other businesses won numerous local and regional awards for
content, photography and community leadership.
Ian has an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and his bachelor’s
from the State University of New York (SUNY) @ Fredonia graduate. Ian
also was a CPA and had his CIA (Certified Internal Auditor). Ian has been
the President or served on the Executive Committee of a number of community
boards including Leadership Long Beach, Long Beach Visitor & Convention
Bureau, Strategic Marketing, CSULB Board of Governors, LB City College
Foundation, March of Dimes and the Amer-I-Can Foundation.
Ian (age 55) and his wife Oksanna have been married 32 years and have
two sons, Shawn (age 29) and Evan (age 25), the other members of The
Lamont Group LLC.
EVAN LAMONT
Founder and Consultant – Public Relations & Marketing
Evan Lamont is the Founder of The Lamont Group
(July 2006) and Consultant for Public Relations & Marketing. Evan,
even as a child was competitive and a budding entrepreneur with a “never
say die” attitude. He was never willing to settle for average, often
going above and beyond the duty at hand to create astonishing work.
Evan, right out of college, was named the Managing Director of the Long Beach Aquatics Festival and 2004 Olympic Swimming Trials at the age of 21. These events were a tremendous success for Long Beach, resulting in an economic impact of over $15 million dollars for local businesses and nearly $100 million dollars for the city. Part of Evan’s responsibilities included the web site, which received over 90,000 media hits during the six week event.
Following the conclusion of the Aquatics Festival, Evan was hired as the Director of Public Relations & Marketing for the upstart Golden Baseball League’s Long Beach Armada franchise. A daunting task considering the three prior baseball franchises failed.
Evan developed and launched an aggressive community marketing and public relations plan. Along with filling the stands on multiple nights with his numerous programs, he established key relationships with local media and generated numerous stories on the team, players and management.
Evan soon received an offer from Frank Groff Public Relations, a leading
Long Beach PR firm and quickly became the “go-to-guy”. He
established strong relationships with all the LA and Southland broadcast,
radio and newspapers placing client stories in the L.A. Times, OC Register,
numerous television stations including KTLA, KNBC, FOX News and CNN and
various radio shows.
At 24, his budding entrepreneur spirit called out and he decided to start
his own company and The Lamont Group was launched
in July 2006. Since then Evan’s unique experience and knowledge
have attracted various clients in need of his marketing and promotion
creativity and media-savvy skills and contacts.
Evan (age 25) has a Bachelors Degree from Whitman College in Walla Walla,
Wa. He also has his Masters in Marketing and Sports Management from CSULB.
SHAWN LAMONT
Consultant – Technology & Web
Shawn Lamont is the Consultant for Technology & Web and a Principal
of The Lamont Group LLC. He is currently a web
developer for Earth Tech (a Tyco subsidiary). Shawn’s responsibilities
include both the company’s intranet and their internet sites and
troubleshooting user technical issues and websites at any Earthtech site
around the globe.
Shawn has extensive web development, design and construction skills using
XHTML, XML and ASP and broad experience utilizing Macomedia Flash, Dreamweaver,
Contribute and Adobe Photoshop. His programming skills and experience
include C++ and C#, Javascript,,SQL and Java. He is fully versed in Microsoft
Office programs and troubleshooting most PC and Mac hardware issues.
Shawn (age 29) has a Bachelors Degree from Whitman College in Walla Walla,
Wa. He has taken various graduate courses in Computer Science at CSULB.
